Hello,
Just a reminder to all the
deer hunters, the mainland state &
private land muzzleloading season opens up on Saturday, November 8th
and runs through Sunday, November 30th. You still have some
time to get your gun sighted in, unfortunately there was only one
public sight-in day and that was last weekend and the state's Great
Swamp range is closed until 1/2/2009. The sportsmen & women of RI
have suffered a loss, times 4.... Joy Borsay, Ted Diluglio, Lori Gibson and Mike Lapisky have retired from
the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
These 4 individuals had a combined tenure of over 130 years with the
agency! In their most recent positions; Joy was the State Hunter Safety Education Coordinator,
Ted was the Resource Manager at the Great Swamp Facility, Lori
was the Supervising Wildlife Biologist and Mike was the Chief of the
Division of Fish & Wildlife. They
will be sorely missed and I know that their
retirement will have an impact on the agency. On behalf of he folks of
RIHunts and myself we would like to wish Joy, Lori and Mike well
on their retirement and to thank them for all of their years of hard work.
Joy is an active user in the
User Forum, Joy always took the time
to answer DEM type of questions that were posted and posted DEM info that was important to the hunters and anglers of the
site, thanks Joy we appreciated it! A forum member's
tire was slashed on his parked vehicle while he and a friend was hunting at the
South Shore Management area in field #5. From what I've been
hearing this seems to be a
reoccurring problem that surfaces every year. The hunter filed a
report with the local police department, they informed him
that he is not alone and that this has been happening to other
hunters that frequent that field as well. If this has happened
to you, you need to file a police report
right away and notify DEM enforcement as well. Once the reports from all of these
hunters start coming in then the
police/DEM will truly know the extent of the crimes.
There are a couple of threads in the Discussion area in the User
Forum,

more. This past weekend was the RI Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend. The program name says it all, this purpose of this program is to introduce youth to waterfowling. In the Waterfowl section of our user forum, Nick, a member posted and announcement offering a fully guided duck hunt (boat, decoys, blind even guns and ammo) to any young hunters or hunters that had kids that wanted to get them
introduced to the sport. There was interest but sadly it was bad
weekend for those that were interested and the hunt never took
place. I want to thank Nick and Company for
their offering this great opportunity. I can't stress this enough, the
User Forum is the Heart & Soul of this site, if you don't have a user account your missing out on a lot of info.

Friends of NRA is a key event that supports thousands of community service related to firearm education, hunter safety, wildlife conservation, range improvements, youth marksmanship and law enforcement, among others. Working with NRA field representatives, the members and volunteers organize banquets in their communities, complete with auctions, special drawings and fellowship. Much of the merchandise at the banquets is donated or provided at reduced cost by hundreds of participating vendors.
The Friends of NRA is the face of the NRA, run at the grassroots level by people from all walks of life. At a Friends of NRA banquet, you'll meet fire chiefs, engineers, shopkeepers, police officers, and teachers: all mainstream citizens working together to support an important cause in preserving our rights and heritage.
Half of the profits raised by each Friends of NRA banquet will be spent in the state in which it was held. The other half supports qualifying national-level programs like the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program, Women On Target®, and other educational and safety services. State Fund Committees made up of volunteers review grant applications from local organizations and make recommendations to The NRA Foundation on how the money might best be used in their areas. with a nice 8 pointer that he took on 10/16 (which
coincidentally happened to be his 20th wedding
anniversary). The buck dressed at 169 pounds.
Grunter was using a Matthews bow and Spitfire mechanical
broadheads, it was a 25 yard shot.
