Well at 4:00 the alarm clock buzzed and I thought it was going to be one of those days. The previous day my daughter Autumn begged to go with me and my wife said that I should but I was hesitant due to the cold, but I stumbled in to wake her anyways.  The ordeal of getting myself dressed in the morning is a sight now I'm helping her put everything we can find on to keep her warm.

On the way to a piece of private property we got coffee and talked about what to do and she answered "dad, you told me this 100 times".  After I parked, we finished getting the rest of her dressed, 2 pairs of gloves, fluorescent orange and brown earmuffs (because they don't have them in camo), and we headed to the stand.

The first leg of the trip was on grass but the last 50 yards were in the woods, so up on dads back we went so we didn't make too much noise. After I helped Autumn into the ladder stand and got her settled in, I brought up the gear. It wasn't 5 minutes later, and then I heard footsteps in front of us, but before I could say anything she whisper it to me, I hear them walking dad.

All I told her was now its time to be quiet and still. Dawn was just breaking and we could see the 2 deer about 20 to 25 yards out in front of us walking from left to right.  It was legal time but I didn't want to take one without good shooting light, so we waited till they moved on. Then about 10 minutes later another doe shows up, now there's enough light.

We watched this doe for about 15 minutes feed in front of us at about 20 yards then walk away and stop about 50 yards away. I don't know why but the doe turned and walked straight to us and stopped at about 2-3 yards away looking right at us.  The doe  bobbed her head and tried every thing she could but neither of us flinched.  Now, I know my daughter was listening the 100 times I told her. This doe even grunted the whole time we watched it, that's was exciting. The doe finally backed up and walked 5 yards to my left giving me enough time to raise my gun and be ready.

When the doe came around a small tree and stopped I said to Autumn, "want me to take her" and she responded "you better" in a small whisper. After the shot, the doe dropped, excitement was running crazy 16 feet up in that ladder stand as I reloaded. We waited a few more hours just to see what else might come by and to give her the real feeling of being out there. This is the one day I'll never forget and hope she doesn't either. Just wish she could hunt now.
